Mulholland Drive (David Lynch)

The Wind Will Carry Us (Abbas Kiarostami)

Russian Ark (Alexander Sokurov)

Rois et reine (Arnaud Desplechin)

Saraband (Ingmar Bergman)

I’m pretty excited about this list because:

a) I love “best of” lists

b) some of my own favourite movies of the decade are on there

c) now I have the new task of seeing all the movies on the list

I should really start archiving all the movies I’ve seen that I’ve really enjoyed because otherwise they just slip my mind over time – for instance I completely forgot I’d seen Talk to Her and had it not been on this list that cognitive tidbit would have just been lost to eternity.

Since we are sort of on the topic, here are some of my favourite movies of all time:

Scenes from A Marriage, The Road Home, Gone With The Wind, The Royal Tenenbuams, Being John Malkovich, Old Boy, Ratcatcher, To Live, Amelie, Dogville, Death of a Salesman, Spirited Away, The Piano

taping things is tantalizing

In These are a few of my favourite things... on December 1, 2009 at 1:33 pm

i won’t lie, as much as it appears like procrastination (or because it totally is procrastination), i revel in the opportunity to do crafty/artsy things at work.

today i gift wrapped a giant box for our holiday food drive. i may have used too much tape – but taping things is weirdly tantalizing, just try it.

me and my creation

ditto

i realized while making the above poster in powerpoint today that I totally miss having Photoshop and InDesign and Illustrator. i must remember to obtain a copy of one of the aforementioned asap.

I’ve been a busy bee this whole week and despite lofty aspirations of shooting lots of photos with my new camera, this is all I’ve mustered so far:

dewey foliage

It’s that time of the year again – the annual EEB Graduate Students Association charity raffle to raise money for Pathways to Education.

Pathways to Education is an award-winning, comprehensive program that offers disadvantaged youth the opportunity to succeed in school, attend post-secondary school, and obtain employment. Last year, we were able to raise a record-breaking $2200 (100% of the proceeds), which brings our total support of Pathways to Education to $5700. Pathways has been able to use this money to provide tutoring, mentoring, financial aid and student advocacy and counseling.

To collect prizes for the raffle, we usually canvas local businesses to ask for donations in the form of services, products and gift certificates. Its amazing to see the generosity that most people, especially the smaller businesses, have and definitely curbs the misanthrope in me. We’ve never canvassed in Kensington before but that is where L. and I plan to go today. Should result in an interesting collection of prizes.

Raffle tickets will go on sale in the beginning of December – if you want to help and buy some tickets, let me know and I will be at your assistance!
